On May 31 – June 2, I was pleased to participate in a conference titled “No War but Class War,” organized by Global Left Forum, Historical Materialism and the Institute for the Radical Imagination. I presented a paper on Marx and Du Bois’ writings on the American Civil War. In the paper, I present a symptomatic reading of Marx on Lincoln and reflect on the question of how of the American Civil War might read as an inheritance of the historical materialist tradition.
