On August 31, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the following speech at the National Conference on New Politics. In it, he identifies three connected evils of society: racism, materialism (i.e. capitalism), and militarism. Dr. King’s analysis in this speech evinces his move toward a more radical, socialistic politics, and counters the sanitized, liberal image of Dr. King often purveyed today.
It is difficult to find a PDF transcript of this speech, so I created one and am hosting it here for educational purposes.
